  • Interdisciplinary Education by fostering a community of interdisciplinary learners enriched by meaningful experiences with the arts, by integrating arts into the four AHS Academies by effectively developing interdisciplinary curricula and by cultivating an environment that encompasses the full landscape of learning.

Ballet Folklórico

Picture
Austin High's Ballet Folklórico will hold an end of semester virtual recital on Friday, December 11th at 6:30pm live on our Facebook page:  www.facebook.com/FolkloricoMaroons.  This will not be a traditional performance.  All the dancers will be safe at home on ZOOM, but it is a chance to see what our dance company has been working on this semester. 2020 makes things harder for us all, but that doesn't mean we can't dance! More details are to come, but mark your calendars!

Fine Arts and Our Academies

The Arts are Classical because this is the earliest branch of the humanities. Classicism is a specific genre of philosophy, expressing itself in literature, architecture, art, and music, which has Ancient Greek and Roman sources and an emphasis on society. It was particularly expressed in the Neoclassicism of the Age of Enlightenment. This is where all of the arts began.
The Arts are High Tech because, as with technology, art evolves with the culture. There are new ways of creating and writing music using computer programs and electronic music. Vocalists can use technology to record and edit music, and create audio portfolios. Theatre incorporates advanced technologies in lighting, sound, and even projections. Dance can us the integration of live dance performance with dance environment (sound, lighting) and students can plan & implement computer-assisted creation of choreographies. Visual Arts students are able now to blend their skills with 3D printers, and computer software programs like Photoshop & AutoCAD; they are also now able to see use Adobe Creative Suite and Coding to create visuals.
The Arts are Science & Innovation because they are the study of how social, political, and cultural values affect scientific research and technological innovation, and how these, in turn, affect society, politics and culture. All incorporate technology in their field including sound, lighting, design, movement, color, & instrumentation, writing music, computer literacy. Various music & design software is available to students.
The Arts are Global because they are the academic study of political, economic, ecological and cultural relations and processes that in some way bear upon the world. There are arts in every culture of the world. The study of the arts informs the learner about the values of other cultures.  Nothing has affected culture more since the beginning of time than the Arts.
