April 2, 2020 Letter from Principal Taylor
April 2, 2020
Dear Austin High Families,
We sincerely hope you are staying healthy during this pandemic. As we continue to monitor the safety of our community, our staff is working from home to prepare for online learning starting Monday. Schooling moving forward will look different. AISD leadership will provide guidance in the near future on grading policies for the remainder of the spring semester. Until then, new assignments posted to BLEND during online learning will not count as a grade.. Students can use this time to work on online modules posted by our teachers, make up work from the 5th grading period, and/or recover credit from previous semesters through the DELTA program. Our number one goal is that learning will continue and our students are successful.
Starting Monday, each teacher will host office hours. The departmental schedule is outlined below. In addition, each teacher will post more specific office hours on their individual BLEND site. Students are encouraged to view teacher BLEND pages regularly and take advantage of the learning opportunities our teachers provide each week. Teachers will post by 9:00 a.m. on M/W for A day and T/Th for B day classes. No new instruction will be posted on Friday so students have the opportunity to reach out to teachers in expanded office hours, as needed. Advisory classes will continue to meet each Wednesday from 11:15 am. to 12:00 p.m. Advisory teachers will notify students on how to access a Zoom Meeting ID.

At the current time, we do not have all the answers to your questions, but we will continue to provide updates to our families as more information becomes available from district leaders. In the meantime, thank you for your support in helping students stay engaged at home. We are life-long learners and this means we learn for the sake of learning and prepare for what lies ahead. Use this time at home to take advantage of engaging in online learning from our amazing teachers at Austin High!
We are Maroons and this means being loyal to our school, the staff, to ourselves, and to each other. We will get through these challenging circumstances, one day at a time. We love our students and wish them well over the remaining days in the spring semester. To show you we are thinking of you, our staff put together a short video message that will be featured in this weekend’s Maroon Update. Stay tuned!
